WIUU and the University College Plymouth St Mark and St John (UCP Marjon) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the purpose of establishing a relationship of mutual benefit to both organizations and the promotion of cross cultural understanding, and also agreed to develop educationally related activities and academic exchange programs.
With over 170 Years of heritage, tradition and experience, Marjon has travelled a long road in becoming a University College. Its constituent Colleges, St John’s (1840) and St Mark’s (1841) were founded to meet an urgent educational need for trained teachers at a time when government made no direct contribution to higher education. The institutions grew out of Battersea College which was founded in 1838 as the first ever teacher training college, later taken over by the National Society in 1841 and renamed St John’s College. St Mark’s College was founded by the National Society in 1840 and located in Chelsea.

UCP Marjon is a higher education institution in the state sector. As a University College, it is able to issue its own degrees to prepare students for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and teaching qualifications. It has a high international profile and its staff frequently work on training programs, projects and consultancies overseas.
