This year’s selection interviews for the British scholarship program under HMC Projects in Central and Eastern Europe are over. The winners will be offered a full scholarship for a two-year Sixth Form course in a boarding school in England or Scotland.
Every year, HMC Projects in Central and Eastern Europe interview applicants from 14 countries, namely Bulgaria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Armenia, Georgia, Estonia, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Montenegro, and Ukraine.
The selection interviews for the academic year 2019/2020 were held in the Ukrainian-American Concordia University in Kyiv on January 18th – January 19th2019. HMC Projects representatives David Morrison and John Vick interviewed 29 Ukrainian high school pupils, pre-selected for interview following the preliminary English test they had sat locally in their regions in November.
The candidates were interviewed in groups of three. Parents were not allowed to participate or observe. On Friday January 18th, the contestants from Kyiv, Bila Tserkva, Boiarka, Zalishchyky, Kovel, Mariupol, Vinnytsia, Ternopil, Odesa, and Melitopol were interviewed. On Saturday January 19th, the interviewers met the candidates from Irpin, Kolomyia, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Bila Tserkva, Bodnariv, Kalush, and Kharkiv. ConcordiaUA organized the ‘waiting room’ for the applicants and their parents to cool down, socialize, take photos, and share their impressions of the interviews.
The scholars to be offered a full scholarship (starting September 1st, 2019) and placed in a British school are to be announced only after selection interviews have been held in all of the 14 countries, normally at the end of February – beginning of March.
