Higher education is a golden opportunity.
Bright, inquisitive minds who decide to continue studies at their chosen university will not only gain an in-depth knowledge of the subjects, but also will practice other vital skills, such as: presentations and public speaking, critical thinking, debating, team tasks, research information, and project work to name a few. Students will then use these skills both on the job, as well as in their everyday life.
I can say that WIUU provides excellent curriculum and what is even better, the subjects are taught in both Ukrainian and English! What a bonus!
A few weeks ago I spoke to a friend of mine, we both studied at WIUU, in the same year and coincidentally he mentioned how much he now uses that knowledge we received in the lecture rooms, especially the accounting. He now works for World Bank and lives in Washington BTW.
Speaking of fellow alumni… To gauge how good the university is, just look at how successful its students are in life.
So, on this page, almost every person who left their remark is either working for a respectful, well-established organisation or fulfilling their own business ideas, both in Ukraine and somewhere abroad.
At the same time, you can just type in Google “WIUU graduates” and you will be flooded with LinkedIn and Facebook pages of people who freelance, have successful personal business or hold quite high position in a well-known multinational.
A few people with whom I studied have moved overseas. Some of them have settled in the EU. I know for sure that two people from my year are now living in Canadia (I hope not too many Canadians will be offended by my spelling), and as I mentioned before other friend is now in the US.
At the same time those who stay in our lovely, beautiful country also manage to find themselves.
Due to the nature of our degree, a lot of graduates become bankers, brokers, financial analysts and so on. But, it doesn’t mean that everyone is following the preset path. Just as an example, my other good university friend now works in the US embassy and as I understand, not in the financial department. Another person from my year delved into the nightclub business. Oh! And myself… I plan flights for a living now.
I almost forgot to mention the lecturers. Concordia University invites good professionals, who know how to engage students and really make them think. Not just remember the material, but to teach them how to use it as well.
As lectures are taught in both Ukrainian and English (mostly American) you will work with Ukrainians and Americans.
During my time in WIUU we even had one British gentleman with suspiciously Ukrainian-sounding surname, who nevertheless spoke perfect English with proper English accent.
I always remember hearing from two or three people from my year about one of our Ukrainian lecturers. They really praised his knowledge, his teaching method and said what a pleasure it was to sit in his classes. Then I thought to my self that this was the best indicator of how good the tutor is.
If students speak so fondly about a lecturer and really enjoy their lectures, then that person is surely doing something right.
To finish, I would also like to mention the “people behind the scenes” – the dean’s office team. They are helpful, professional people, who will make your studying process run smoothly.
Earlier on this month they helped me with a little “situation” I had. Their responses were prompt and they really “gone a mile” to help me.
I was pleasantly surprised by their efforts and can’t thank them enough.
So, the opportunity is there. Take it!

With best wishes for the future,
Oleksiy Skryl
