University Life

ConcordiaUA is a global community with students, alumni, faculty, staff and partners coming from every corner of the world.

Students Life

The Student Council of the Ukrainian-American Concordia University helps students become responsible and active members of the community.

The Student Council as the voice of students helps share ideas, interests, and students’ concerns with the Professors, Deans and the Rector.

During the year, ConcordiaUA organizes a range of on- and off-campus cultural, social and educational events, recreational activities, and sporting events:

  • Scientific conferences and research activities
  • Meetings with businessmen, politicians, and diplomats
  • Business workshops and master classes
  • Language competitions and olympiads
  • Internships at international Ukrainian and foreign companies, the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Kyiv Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  • Dual diploma and exchange programs
  • Sport competitions and athletic tournaments
  • Sightseeing tours, excursions and field trips
  • Picnics and celebrations

Cafeterias

There are several food corners for UACU students, including “Matusyna Kukhnia” (Mother’s Cuisine) Cafeteria, where students enjoy having hot and delicious food, and “Gorkiy – Espresso Bar” Café, where you can have a cup of coffee and a sandwich relaxing in the transformer armchairs.

Dormitories

Our regular students and students of the Preparatory Department may, if necessary, stay in the dormitory. As UACU has agreements with three educational institutions (National Dragomanov Pedagogical University, Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, and the European University), our students have an opportunity to choose a more comfortable dormitory for stay according to their needs.

Sport

Ukrainian-American Concordia University is the place for students, staff and the UACU community to get active, stay fit, and play sport in a range of fun, convenient and social programs. We have something for everyone and every level.

Our students use the facilities of the athletics complex at National Pedagogical Dragomanov University: a pool, where each student has an opportunity to swim (or learn to swim), and gyms for regular PE classes. Students also play football, volleyball, basketball, and train at the gym. It has become a tradition to hold sports competitions: ConcordiaUA Cup competitions are held every year in football, basketball, swimming, and athletics. Interesting events take place in the open sports grounds. There are highly-qualified athletes among our university students specializing in swimming, cycling, fencing, powerlifting, and team sports games.

Education Abroad

Ukrainian-American Concordia University has successfully established and developed joint programs with the University of Minnesota, Crookston (USA), Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor (USA), Rutgers University (USA), the State University of Koblenz-Landau (Germany) and the Higher School of Occupational Safety Management  (Poland).

Each of these programs offers students the opportunity to study in an international environment, gaining knowledge and skills at the Ukrainian-American Concordia University and our foreign partner university.

If you are already studying or planning to become a ConcordiaUA student, you have the choice to combine studies at UACU with a Bachelor/Master degree in the USA, Germany or Poland. The main thing is to make the right choice!

Academic Exchange Programs

In addition to dual diploma programs, we offer a variety of exchange programs with our long-standing partners: Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor (USA), East Central University (USA), Trier University (Germany), the University of Applied Sciences (Worms, Germany), Richmond International American University (London, UK) and others.

Friday Movies

A weekly presentation of authentic American and European movies in English with English subtitles is organized on the Concordia premises. After the presentation school and university students have an opportunity to take part in follow-up discussions. The movies are shown regularly on Fridays.

Mentorship program

ConcordiaUA Mentorship Program provides students with counseling, advising, networking including internship and career development. It is a support service for Ukrainian and international students.

Library

UACU Library is equipped with a sufficient number of contemporary Ukrainian, American, as well as other foreign textbooks, reference books, scientific and fiction literature, video and audio courses and periodicals. There are electronic catalogs, magazines, reference books, encyclopedias and dictionaries of various profiles for students’ needs.

Career

Career counselors advise students on career planning and job opportunities. They organize workshops on resume writing, job interviewing techniques and other relevant issues. Career counselors expose qualified UACU students to their potential future employers and form links between ConcordiaUA and business community.

Business Internship

Business internship was created at ConcordiaUA as a step toward reaching the goals of becoming the leading educational establishment in students’ employability. The main purpose of internship is providing students with practical experience in business according to international and Ukrainian standards.

Psychological support

Our university is preparing to organize qualified non-stop psychological assistance to students, instructors and staff members.
Personal assistance may be sought by contacting the Dean’s office (by phone or email).
Information for any questions (including issues of a psychological nature, health, etc.) is contained on Moodle page.

Contacts for all issues of student life can be found on the home page of the site.

Students seeking any help (including health problems) through messengers – Facebook, telegram, viber, WhatsApp 24/7.

Our colleague Tetiana Romanovska has higher pedagogical, secondary professional medical education and experience in medical institutions and supports students in case of their health problems – there have been cases of students with epilepsy, with loss of consciousness – and she can provide advice and assistance if necessary to urgently consult specialist doctors in Kyiv, and provide psychological advice.

Tetiana during in-person studies at the university and during online studies is always in touch and ready to help.

In order to provide advice with problems that may arise with regard to the psychological and behavioral adaptation of students, instructors and staff, UACU has an agreement with the practical psychologist Galina Derevianko.

We invite psychologists to a meeting with students, where they can ask questions that are relevant and important for them. There will be meetings at the university with Natalia Kholodenko, in May 2021, and we plan to meet with a practical psychologist Galina Derevianko).

Psychology is one of the compulsory subjects of the curriculum, during the study of this course students communicate with their instructor and can ask questions that concern them.

The International Department works in this direction with international students, and special attention is paid to the availability of health insurance policies for this group of students. There is constant support for international students in all areas of their adaptation at university and the country.

Since September 1, 2015 UACU has been cooperating under a contract with the All-Ukrainian Clinical Medical and Rehabilitation Cardiac Surgery Center of the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine, in which a Psychologist is a member. If students or staff seek psychological help, the university will urgently contact the Clinic to help resolve the problem as soon as possible.
Students constantly request support, but there have been no calls for purely psychological issues requiring professional help.

We will be more active in offering this assistance.

We study very carefully the experience of our international partners in providing psychological assistance and plan how best to apply these best practices to our Ukrainian conditions. Our co-founder Concordia University, Wisconsin (USA), for example, has in additional to a psychologist, two highly trained Support dogs that provide psychological relaxation to students and staff of the university – comfort dog Zoey!

In June ConcordiaUA instructors and staff members held an interesting meeting with psychologist Galyna Derevianko, dedicated to the prevention and overcoming of occupational burnout syndrome. After a busy and rather unusual quarantine academic year, this meeting caused a live interest among instructors and staff. Galyna Derevianko provided the necessary information with examples that will help not to acquire the syndrome of professional burnout.

Collaborative webinar with Johns Hopkins University

ConcordiaUA together with the famous Johns Hopkins University (USA) held a webinar for students, instructors etc. The topic was “COVID-19 and mental health: response and management”. The speakers provided us with a useful presentation and gave us the main aspects of the theme. The webinar presented the mental health situation during the pandemic, as well as its implications for the future, and offer recommendations for achieving mental health responses to COVID-19. It was very interesting and useful information for all of us.

Charity

We, at Ukrainian-American Concordia University, believe that success should be measured by the lives we help to change. Our students have a possibility to make an input in someone’s life by supporting orphanages in cooperation with Blagomay Charitable Foundation.

Blagomay is a charity organization which was set up by students and graduates from the Ukrainian-American Concordia University. The mission of the organization is to attract UACU students to moral issues in our society and to combine the willingness to help children in orphanage homes around Ukraine. Our students eagerly participate in various charity projects which are organized by the charity foundation.
