Distance Learning Center

Director – Natalia Mykhailivna Chaplynska, Ph.D. in Economics, Associate Professor

The Distance Learning Center of the Ukrainian-American Concordia University operates in accordance with the Regulations on Distance Learning.

The Regulations on Distance Learning at UACU were developed in accordance with the Laws of Ukraine “On Higher Education” and “On Education”,  the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “On Approval of the Provisions for Distance Learning” No. 466 of April 25th, 2013, registered in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on April 30th, 2013, No. 703/23235, “Requirements for Institutions of Higher Education and Institutions for Postgraduate Education, Scientific, Academic Institutions Providing Educational Services in the Distance Form of Education on Training and Professional Development on the Accredited Fields and Specialities”, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on October 30th, 2013, No. 1518, registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on October 31st, 2013, No. 1857/24389. In order to provide high quality education in line with innovative approaches of the world’s leading educational institutions and recognizing the benefit of online learning, feedback and assessment, ConcordiaUA uses MOODLE 3.0 (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) – the virtual distance and online learning resources and activities platform, which facilitates access to learning resources and enhances communication between instructors and students.

Distance learning implies the individualized process of acquiring knowledge, skills, and cognitive activities, in which the main elements include physical separation of teachers and students during instruction and the use of various technologies to facilitate student-teacher and student-student communication by means of modern psychological, pedagogical, information and communication technologies.

The distance mode of learning is the form of organization and management of teaching and learning at UACU, which provides for the implementation of distance education and allows for an opportunity for the graduates to obtain the documents on the respective education or educational-professional level as provided by the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education”.

UACU provides specialist training and education in the form of distance learning on undergraduate (a bachelor’s degree in Management (073) and International Economic Relations (292)) and graduate (Management (073), educational-professional program “Business Administration”) levels.

The duration of training on the distance mode of studies corresponds to the education plan of the Ukrainian-American Concordia University: 4 years for a bachelor’s degree, 1 year and a half for a master’s.

Distance education uses web-based resources of academic disciplines (programs), inclusive of online academic courses – systematized collections of information and instructional resources, required to internalize these academic disciplines (programs), accessible via the Internet using a web browser and/or other software applications available to a user.

The maximum possible number of UACU students studying on the distance mode is determined within the licensed quotas, allotted for extramural studies. The licensed quotas are distributed in accordance with the resolution of the UACU’s Admissions Office as agreed with the Director of the Distance Learning Center.

The teaching and learning on the distance form of education can be realized in real time (synchronous mode) and be based on a student’s self-paced independent work (asynchronous mode).

A student selects academic courses for independent online learning from the list of academic disciplines offered by UACU.

Distance learning technologies at the Ukrainian-American Concordia University can be utilized for the intramural and extramural modes of studies. Having submitted the supporting documents, a student may study an academic course online on grounds of an official application from a student, approved by the Department Chair and the Director of the Distance Learning Center.

Students who have stated their own willingness and intention to follow an individual education plan may be transferred to the online mode of studies. Students’ work on online courses is guided by the corresponding Instructions.
