The fourth edition of Microeconomics case studies and applications is a substantial reworking of the third edition. First, it contains new case studies on topics chosen to illustrate a key concept: Uber’s surge pricing model as an application of the demand/supply model (2.4), and analysis of a proposal to pay a subsidy to childcare workers in Australia to explain how subsidies work (2.10). Second, all the case studies have been reviewed and most have been updated with new examples. Third, I have taken the opportunity to introduce many new application-oriented questions into the Some questions to think about’ sections. Fourth, 10 case studies from the third edition have been removed. This has been done to allow the purchase price of the book to hopefully remain affordable for students.
