Business English Competition 2022: Results Announced

Business English Competition – 2022 was held in the distance mode on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022. Our administration, faculty, and staff welcomed all participants during the online opening. The participants were warmly greeted by Ms. Maryna Malygina, Area Manager and official representative of Pearson Education in Ukraine, our inspirer, friend, and partner for over fifteen years, and Mr. Paul Thomas, advisor to the UACU Rector, a leading business expert specializing in natural resource economics, international finance, business valuation, asset appraisal, and financial analysis, Partner and President with Thomas and Simonova.

Traditionally, BEC included two parts: a computer test and a business presentation. The test, designed in Moodle with online proctoring through Zoom, was held on Saturday, April 2nd. The business presentations had to be submitted as pre-recorded videos on Sunday, April 3rd. The participants’ speeches were evaluated by UACU English and Business English instructors, subject lecturers, and representatives of our partners.

By decision of the UACU Administration, the three winners of BEC-2022 will receive a 100% tuition discount at UACU if they apply for a Bachelor’s degree program:

I Place: Karyna Hakobyan (Zaporizhzhia, Zaporizhzhia Specialized Boarding School Sich Collegium, 11th grade) – 175.30 points in total. Additional awards: Stage 1 Winner (highest test score); Stage 2 Winner – highest business presentation score (topic: “Green Ant”) with a special award “Sustainable Development Ambassador”

II Place: Mariia Skopychenko (Kyiv, Specialized School No. 44, 11th grade) – 167.87 points in total. Additional awards: Stage 2 Winner – highest business presentation score (topic: “Паляниця”) with a special award “Effective Trends Catcher”; 4th highest test score 

III Place: Elizabeth Povstiana (Boryspil, Applied College of HEI “Academician Yuriy Bugay International Scientific and Technical University”, 2nd year) – 167.73 points in total. Additional awards: 3rd highest test score; 2nd best business presentation (topic: “Angstrem”)

Four participants ranked 4th-7th in the cumulative rating will receive a 75% discount:

    • Vitalina Semanyshyn (Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykola Sabat Lyceum, 11th grade)– 164.97 points; additional award: 3rd highest test score 
    • Anastasiia Turkot (Lviv, Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium, 10th grade)– 162.37 points
    • Mariia Dmytryk (Kharkiv, Kharkiv Specialized School No. 119, 10th grade) – 160.10 points
    • Maria Godovanets (Kyiv, International Relations Gymnasium No. 323) – 159.88 points. Additional award: 2nd highest test score 

Two students ranked 8th-9th in the rating will be offered a 50% discount:

    • Oleksandra Khalo (Kyiv, Ukrainian Humanities Lyceum of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, 10th grade) – 147.83 points
    • Illia Bandura (Brovary, School No. 7, 10th grade) – 133.78 points

The other participants will be eligible for a tuition discount of 25%.

In Moodle (UACU Distance Learning Center), a free distance course ConcordiaUA_Start is now available for everyone who has registered as BEC participants. The participants of the Competition can see the scores/points received in Moodle, too.

We are proud of all the Ukrainian high-school students who took part in the Competition. Following inquiries from all those who were not able to attend, we are considering holding one more Business English contest later in the spring/summer. You can still register for participation!
