The poem is a reflection on the passing of time and the inevitability of aging, as well as a meditation on the meaning of life and the human condition.

Shevchenko paints a vivid picture of the passing of time, comparing it to the flow of a river, the movement of the clouds, and the turning of the seasons. This imagery gives the poem a sense of timelessness and universality, while also highlighting the fleeting nature of human life.
