Анастасія розповідає про своє рідне місто Бровари:

“As far as I know, students of our university come from different cities and even countries. My hometown is located not so far away from Kyiv but I would like to tell you about it more. Brovary is a huge suburb of the capital of Ukraine; it is the biggest city in the region with a fast-developing industry. There are about 100 000 citizens in my hometown.

Speaking about the history of Brovary, I would start with its name. There are two versions of appearing the word “Brovary”. The first, and the most common, version says that the citizens of the town were very good at making beer. So, the name Brovary comes from “Brewery”. They say that the beer was so good, that the travelers who were heading to Kyiv always stayed in the town to taste the drink. Another version is that the “Brovary” is a connection of Ukrainian words “bravi vory” or, in translation, brave thieves.

Moving on to the most interesting historical events now. The town was founded in 1630. From its start Brovary was always growing rapidly. Many famous people stayed in Brovary, but I would highlight our national poet Taras Shevchenko. Now we have the station and a park with the great monument of the Ukrainian most-admired poet. Maria Lagunova, the famous tank-driver of World War II, lived in Brovary and we have a street named in her honor. Before the wartime in Brovary, Kyiv airport was even located there. It was destroyed in the first hours of German attack on Soviet Union and the only thing left from those times is the ark to enter the airport.

There are predictions about Brovary that it can become a part of our capital in the closest future. Most of the citizens work in Kyiv and come to town for the night sleep. So, I would not say that Brovary is a tourist town, it is more like a sleeping district of Kyiv. Nevertheless, we still have interesting sights. Firstly, aqua park in Terminal. Do you know that it was the first aqua park in Kyiv region?  And now it is the only one with the moving roof. There we also have a large Victory park with a picturesque artificial lake and a rope park. Our SapSan shooting gallery complex is the biggest one in Ukraine and offers a variety of activities. They differ from horse riding to archery. As for the industry, we have a lot of factories producing almost all types of products. Specially Brovary is famous for making shoes.

As for the disadvantages of our capital`s suburb. Firstly, there are not many schools here. So, people who move to any block of flats in a new-building area don’t have a new school for their children. They go to our old schools and I think that at this rate soon we will have three shifts of studying in each school. Secondly, the transportation system could be better. The traffic is always busy and traffic jams are not an unusual thing.

But all in all, I would like to say that I like Brovary. A fast-growing city that has everything you need and if you want more, the capital is closer than you think.”
