«Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford… What makes these universities prominent, prestigious, and recognizable? Is there a unified formula for success? Why cannot we find any Ukrainian universities in this list? What do they lack? This essay will examine the requirements necessary for the ranking of universities.
There are factors which can have an impact on the image of educational institutions. Among the things which can affect are: academic prestige, scientific base, intellectual power of the faculty. Moreover, extracurricular activities, comfortable campus, affordable tuition fees, satisfaction of students and alumni can give weight to the attractiveness of universities. Our Concordia University has almost everything listed above. However, it is not engaged in sufficient promotion.
Proper advertising will give benefits to the university. In my opinion, it is necessary to develop social media awareness and create an own brand. Thus, it will improve the ranking: firstly, domestically – in Ukraine, and then in the world. Word of mouth marketing, which is a means of transmitting information, is also a powerful tool. Former graduates share their experience and encourage others to join the family of Concordia.
The optimal combination of theory and practice makes studying at our university really inspiring. It is focused on new technologies and innovative approaches to studying. In addition, it provides with student exchange programs and gives excellent opportunities for internship and future employment. Among the lecturers are also prominent business professionals who represent leading companies and are willing to share their skills with the students.
These days, in the era of lifelong learning, it is important for universities to develop different programs addressing the needs of all citizens. The emphasis should be placed on encouraging people to stay self-motivated. As Allan Bloom, an American philosopher, once said “Education is the movement from darkness to light”, the ultimate goal of tertiary education is to produce graduates who will become effective leaders in politics, economy, public relations, management and business. Concordia University shares the same values and will soon appear in the list of top educational institutions.»
